Personal Shoot: Playing with Food

THE CONCEPT: Color-Specific Food Photography

Personal work builds skills, keeps you curious and creatively engaged, and welcomes a spirit of playful experimentation that helps you be a better photographer and more engaged service provider. This shoot, focused on the astonishing abundance and decadent beauty of fresh produce, provided a great reminder to me of how much benefit there is to these self-initiated endeavors.

THE SHOOT: Artfully Styled Groupings Three Ways

I wanted to give myself three distinct prompts for this shoot, all with the goal of celebrating the beautifully rich colors, textures, and forms of fresh produce. I utilized a soft neutral backdrop to put all of the focus on the subject matter, colorful backdrops to heighten and accent the ingredients, and side-view shots where minimalist props could be utilized to create a visual “stage” allowing single elements to pop. For all images I wanted to highlight my skill as a creative director, stylist, and photographer as a disciplined act of intentional creative play and a focused portfolio building exercise.

Shots like these can be invaluable if you have a food or beverage business where you wish to express your core ingredients, flavor palettes, and brand identity. But it doesn’t stop there. Imagine you have a beauty or fragrance line, and you want to highlight your integrity in sourcing, scent notes and mood characteristics, and beneficial properties. Allowing the component ingredients to take center stage with your products tells a colorful and engaging story to build brand engagement and loyalty.

If YOU have a business that is reaching toward the next level and wish to grow and expand through quality images that help tell your story please reach out. I'd love to talk about possibilities. You can take a look at some other examples of my Food and Beverage Photography and Product Photography.
