During a recent shoot I had a couple ideas I wanted to explore with very simple materials: fabric and ribbon. How could I creatively have my subject interact with these items in a visually striking manner? Ribbon found its way winding through hair and wrapped around the body, providing a pop of color but also the hint of satin brushing against and clinging to the surface of naked skin. And while I had intended for the sheer fabric to serve as a flat, colored filter between my model and the lens, I discovered surprise beauty in the shapes and different hues created by the delicate folds as they moved naturally through light. And the best part? There are so many more possibilities to try. I'm always grateful for these little reminders to play and experiment with an eye on spontaneity.
