What does it mean to truly be transformed? In a year of profound personal change, I have learned that great shifts in our own infrastructure, while sometimes painful and uncomfortable, help create the perfect landscape for beauty and wisdom to take shape.
I have long been attracted to natural specimens with a particular affection for the vast diversity and magnificence of insects. My fondness for butterflies and cicadas stems from a fascination with concepts of transformation, a reminder and reassurance that everything is, to a certain degree, in the process of becoming something else. We can indeed release aspects of our former self to make room for the self that is yet to be.
And so it was with great excitement that I recently had a creative shoot showcasing my sense of wonder at these extraordinary creatures, both simultaneously fragile and lasting.
My muse, the lovely Sarah Nicole Snyder, was more than accommodating towards the extended cast of specimens, extending an air of calm to the afternoon. We worked together on two other sessions that I am thrilled to feature here on the blog in coming weeks. Stay tuned.
